MUMBAI: A python hatchling was rescued from the engine cabin of the Madgaon-Mumbai Jan Shatabdi Express at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in the early hours of Wednesday, barely days after a venomous snake was spotted at the underground BKC Metro station. The reptile was discovered inside the locomotive of Train No. 12052, the Madgaon-Mumbai Jan Shatabdi Express, after the train arrived at Platform No. 11 around 12.45 am.

During a routine inspection, loco pilot N K Parsoya noticed the hatchling coiled near the driving unit and immediately alerted relief loco pilot Omprakash Ram and railway authorities.Following the alert, honorary state animal welfare officer Abhishek Thackeray was called to the spot.

Taking necessary precautions, he rescued the hatchling around 1.45 am.

The snake was later released into a suitable natural habitat.Railway officials said the rescue operation was completed without affecting train services or causing any inconvenience to passengers. An inquiry has been initiated to ascertain how the hatchling entered the locomotive’s sealed cabin.

Wildlife experts said the incident coincides with the hatching season for pythons and suggested that the young snake may have sought shelter inside the engine compartment to escape the heavy monsoon rains.Officials urged the public not to panic if snakes are spotted during the monsoon season.

They advised people against attempting to catch or kill reptiles and instead contact the forest department or authorised snake rescuers for assistance. The incident comes close on the heels of a snake sighting at the underground BKC Metro station, highlighting an increase in reptile sightings during the ongoing monsoon. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Mumbai | Silver Rate in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai | Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Petrol Price in Mumbai | Diesel Price in Mumbai | CNG Price in Mumbai | LPG Price in MumbaiStay updated with the latest Mumbai news.
