Nashik: The average wholesale price of onions at Lasalgaon Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) increased by 15% on Tuesday to Rs2,000 per quintal, marking its highest level in the past six months. The last time prices hovered at similar levels was in Dec 2025.
On Monday, the average wholesale price was recorded at Rs1,740 per quintal.
The minimum and maximum wholesale prices were recorded at Rs800 and Rs2,628 per quintal respectively on Tuesday. An APMC official, while talking to TOI, said there has been a drop in the arrival of onions over the last few days which has led to a rise in the average wholesale prices.“Daily arrivals have declined from around 18,000 quintals to 12,000 quintals.
Moreover, there has been a rise in demand for onions, particularly for export, which has also contributed to the increase in prices over the last 15 days,” the official said. The price rise has dampened onion procurement by the two central agencies — National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF).Farmers are preferring to sell their produce in the open market where they are fetching better returns compared to the agencies’ procurement rate of Rs1,730 per quintal.
In the APMCs, farmers are getting prices for Grade A and B quality onions in the range of Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,000 per quintal. The APMC official said drop in arrivals has led to a rise in the average wholesale price.
Currently, the onions arriving in the market are summer produce harvested in March and April.
These onions have a shelf life of around six to seven months.Hence, farmers prefer storing them in the hope of getting better prices.
The farmers bring their produce to the APMCs based on their financial needs.
As there is no fresh onion crop until the arrival of kharif onions by mid-Oct, the stored summer onions cater to market demand until then. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Nashik | Silver Rate in Nashik | Bank Holidays in Nashik | Public Holidays in Nashik | Petrol Price in Nashik | Diesel Price in Nashik | CNG Price in Nashik | LPG Price in NashikStay updated with the latest Nashik news.
