Asked not to flung Rs 50 note, vendor stabs cart owner dead

Bhopal: What began as an argument over a Rs 50 handcart rental payment ended in murder in Damoh district on Tuesday night, police said.A visiting fruit vendor allegedly stabbed 25-year-old Atul Ahirwar to death after throwing a Rs 50 note at him during a dispute at the weekly market in Tendukheda town, they said.According to witnesses, Atul had rented out his handcart to the vendor for the day.

Around 9 pm, when he approached the trader to collect the rent, the vendor allegedly flung a Rs 50 note towards him.

Atul objected and asked him to hand over the money properly, following which the exchange escalated into a heated argument.In a fit of rage, the vendor allegedly pulled out a fruit-cutting knife and stabbed Atul in the chest, near the heart.

He collapsed on the spot and was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead, police said.The victim, a resident of Ward No. 5 in Tendukheda, had been married about two months ago.The killing sparked outrage in the town, with family members and local residents blocking the Damoh-Jabalpur highway near the bus stand and demanding immediate arrest of the accused.The protest turned unruly as some demonstrators overturned handcarts and threw fruit onto the road, disrupting traffic for hours.

Police later brought the situation under control and cleared the blockade.Police said the accused, believed to be a fruit trader from outside the town, is absconding.
