Andy Burnham warned against leftward shift and business tax rises

Opposition leaders are set to address business chiefs, outlining their economic strategies in anticipation of Sir Keir Starmer's potential successor, Andy Burnham.

Conservative Shadow Chancellor Sir Mel Stride will warn Mr Burnham against imposing new business taxes and urge him to rule out further tax increases.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey will caution against a “lurch to the left” under Burnham and propose a growth and defence partnership with the EU to counter post-Brexit economic damage.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves will reaffirm the Government's dedication to economic stability and highlight recent achievements, including interest rate cuts and growth among European G7 nations.

Green Party leader Zack Polanski will seek to reassure businesses, promising long-term stability, a resilient economy and an end to the “decade of instability” following the Brexit vote.
