    Karur: A large urn believed to be more than 100 years old was unearthed on Friday from an agricultural field in Sivayam village near Krishnarayapuram in Karur district.The discovery was made by Arumugam, 50, a farmer from the village, while preparing his 20-cent rain-fed agricultural land for sowing sorghum.

    He noticed a large pit on the field and immediately informed the village administrative officer (VAO).Following the information, revenue officials visited the site and conducted an inspection.

    An earthmover was used to carefully excavate the area surrounding the pit.

    During the excavation, officials unearthed a massive urn buried beneath the surface.According to officials, the earthen artifact measures about four feet in height.

    Its widest mid-section has a diameter of nearly three feet, while the opening measures around one-and-a-half feet in diameter.The urn has been secured by the revenue department and shifted to the Krishnarayapuram taluk office for safe custody.

    Officials said the artifact appears to be ancient, though its age and historical significance can be determined only after a detailed examination by experts.
