Kendrapada: The additional district judge-cum-special judge (Pocso), Jajpur, Abhilash Senapati sentenced a 60-year-old private tuition teacher to 20 years of imprisonment on Tuesday for raping a 16-year-old girl on July 29, 2020, when she was alone in her house.
He used to go to her home to teach her.
The girl was a Class X student when the incident took place.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict and failure to pay it would result in his sentence being increased by a year.
The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay Rs 8 lakh compensation to the girl.Pronouncing the verdict, the judge convicted the accused under Section 376(2)(f) (pertains to aggravated rape committed by someone in a position of trust, authority, or a fiduciary relationship) of IPC and under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.The teacher was arrested following an FIR lodged by the girl’s mother in police station a few days after the incident.
The complaint alleged that the accused threatened the girl with death if she told anyone about the incident.
Her family members came to know about the incident when she complained of severe pain in her body.
