DAVANGERE: A 20-year-old man suspected of terror links with a Pakistan-based terror organisation was arrested in Karnataka’s Davangere district on Tuesday.Police said he had recently arrived in Harihar taluk and was working as a painter.
He was arrested on Tuesday during a joint operation with intelligence agencies.The accused has been identified as Suhail, a native of Uttar Pradesh.The action followed inputs received from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials said.
A senior officer said the accused was handed over to the concerned investigating agency.Police claimed suspected terror-related material was found on his WhatsApp account.
He was allegedly in contact with several individuals based in Pakistan, news agency PTI reported.The arrest comes weeks after two similar arrests on June 4.
Two men were earlier held in Tumakuru and Davangere districts.Officials said information recovered from the mobile phone led to the arrest.They were accused of contacting a Pakistan-based individual through social media.
Police said the case involved activities affecting national security, PTI reported.Karnataka home minister Priyank Kharge confirmed the arrest on Wednesday.
He said the accused had contacts with a few Pakistani nationals.Kharge said further details would emerge after the investigation.
