    Mysuru: Mysuru district police have formed anti-rowdy squads to keep a tab on 1,170 rowdies and to curb their illegal activities.With the objective of monitoring rowdy-sheeters and reforming them, steering them away from criminal behaviour, and helping reintegrate them into mainstream society, 17 anti-rowdy squads have been formed in Mysuru district.

    These include four squads at the circle level and 13 at the police station level.Mysuru superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi said these exclusive squads are formed to verify and track the activities of listed rowdies, especially to ensure strict compliance with court attendance and bond conditions.

    Besides initiating action for bail cancellation on violation and proceed with banishment proposals under Goonda Act.Mysuru district has 1,170 rowdy-sheeters, among whom 300 are in focus by the law enforcement authorities.The SP said he would review the squad activities once every 15 days.Circle Inspectors have been appointed to head the circle-level anti-rowdy squads, while police sub-inspectors will lead the station-level squads.

    Each squad will function with five police officers and staff members under its command.

    The sub-divisional deputy superintendents of police will supervise these squads.The squads will verify old criminal records of individuals and open a rowdy list against repeat offenders.

    The activities of active rowdies and their associates will be closely watched, and steps will be taken to prevent their involvement in rowdyism.

    Surveillance will also be kept on rowdies lodged in jails and those released from prison.Rowdies within police station limits will be summoned periodically, warned, and made to execute bonds for maintaining peace.
